While depression is a commonly recognized disorder afflicting hundreds of millions of people worldwide, there is still a lot of misunderstanding and negative stigma surrounding the condition. Many people are hesitant to seek out help, living in denial that they have a problem. They fear the reaction from others that they should be able to just “snap out of it.” Others may be trying to deal with their depression, but in the wrong ways, attempting to mask the emotional and physical pain with prescription pills that numb their pain. For these reasons and many others, a large number of people with depression are still not getting the proper care and treatment they need to manage the symptoms of depression that can be greatly impacting their quality of life.
